Vols Fall to #5 Dyersburg State

Wadley, AL – The Logan baseball team suffers their first loss of the season in the finale of the Southern Union Invitational on Sunday; falling to #5 Dyersburg State Community College 11-6. The loss puts the Vols at 4-1 for the year and 2-1 for the weekend.

The Vols would jump out to an early 3-0 lead after two innings, but a rough five-run third inning would give Dyersburg a 5-3 lead. That score would hold until the seventh when DSCC would add a run in the top half, but Logan would respond with two runs in the bottom half to keep the deficit at 6-5. The game would get away from the Vols in the eighth when DSCC would touch the Logan bullpen for 4 runs in the frame, putting the score at 10-5; both teams would add a run in the ninth to finish the scoring.

Hunter Sullivan (0-1), who got his first start of the year, would take the loss on the hill, going 2.2 IP, giving up five runs, four earned, on two hits, while walking four and striking out two. Leading the offensive charge for the Vols were Collin Clayton and Cameron Touchette, who would both go 3-4 with a double. Jeremy Gaines would add two hits of his own.

"Two big innings hurt us today, we talk pretty regularly about avoiding the big inning and it bit us today. You have to tip your cap to Dyersburg State, they are a very good team that pitches it well and battle at the plate from top to bottom." Head Coach Kyle Surprenant said. Coach Surprenant liked what he saw from his club on the team's first road trip. "Overall I am very pleased with this weekend; we played three very good clubs and came away 2-1. If we will continue to compete with the effort and energy that we did this weekend we should be an exciting team to watch."
