Vols Split DH with SWIC; Win Series

Belleville, IL - A late comeback fell short in game one (10-11), but the Vols baseball team would bounce back to take game to (7-4) and earn a split of the doubleheader with Southwestern Illinois College. With the split Logan won the season series 2-1 with the help of a 14-3 win over SWIC back on April 18. The Vols now sit at 33-14 on the year and 19-5 in GRAC play. Logan opens up the final regular season series of the year on Wednesday; moved up from Thursday due to impending storms, when they travel to Southeastern Illinois. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.

Game one saw SWIC set the tone for game, scoring runs in the six of the first seven innings, to take a commanding 11-4 to lead. Logan would make a push in the 8th, scoring six runs, all with two outs in the frame capped off by Jack Wilson's three-run bomb to cut the deficit to 11-10. After a scoreless bottom of the 8th, the Vols worked the tying and winning run on base with one out, but left them stranded at first and second. Hunter Sullivan took the loss on the mound; going five innings, giving up eight runs (six earned) on seven hits while striking out seven. Justin Bauersachs would finish the game in relief, going three innings and giving up three runs. At the plate, Logan would knock out 12 hits for the game, led by AJ Lewis' 3-5 day. Jack Wilson and Cameron Touchette also added two hits each.

In game two the Vols would open the game with a bang scoring five runs in the top of the first. Jack Wilson got things going with a 2-RBI single with 1-out. SWIC would answer back with two in the 1st and one run in the 2nd, but starter Adison Wildharber would shut down the Storm offense the rest of the way. Wildharber (3-1) would throw a complete game, giving up four runs (three earned) on seven hits while striking out five. The Vols would add single runs in the 4th, on a Cameron Touchette sac fly, and in the 6th on a Jack Wilson solo shot to right to seal the victory. Jack Wilson led the way at the plate in game two with a 2-3 with 3 RBI day; AJ Lewis also had a multiple hit game as well.
