Vols Sweep Triton to Improve to 10-0

Carterville, IL - The Logan Vols kept their early season success going with a doubleheader sweep of Triton College on the turf at Logan on Tuesday. Logan took game one 5-0 and game two 9-2. The wins put the Volunteers at 10-0 on the season and they put that record on the line on Wednesday when the finish the series with Triton; first pitch is set for 2 p.m.

Game One saw the Vols pitching hold the Trojans to two hits and five total base runners en route to the 5-0 victory. Cameron Robinson (1-0) would pick up the win in his first career start; going four shutout innings, giving only one hit and striking out four. Andrew Zenner (2) would get the three inning save, only allowing one hit and striking out three. Offensively, the Vols got things going early when Sam Frontino would score Hunter Combs with a 2-out single in the 1st. Frontino would come up big again in the 5th, when he'd score two more with 2-outs on a hard line drive that was misplayed in left. Hunter Combs would cap the scoring with a 2-out, RBI double in the 6th. Combs would led the offensive charge for the Vols going 2-3 with 2 runs scored and an RBI.

Game Two was close battle until the Vols would blow the game open with a six run 5th to win 9-2. Logan would open up the scoring in the third when Hunter Combs would score Zak Hartleb on a sac fly and Zach Parks would earn a bases loaded walk to put the Vols up 2-0 after three. Triton would answer back to tie the game and chase Volunteer Starter Joe Darlin with one out in the 4th, but Luke Seed would come in and get a strikeout and Cody Jansen would gun down a would be base stealer to end the 4th and keep the game tied. Darlin's final line saw him go 3.1 innings, giving up two runs on three hits, while striking out four and get the no-decision. The Vols would blow the game open in the 5th, capitalizing on Triton mistakes, Cody Jansen, Luke Brown, and Hunter Combs would all have RBI hits in the inning. Luke Seed (1-0) would pick up his first win in relief, controlling the game as soon as he came in, striking out all 10 batters he faced. Luke Brown led the way with the bats, going 4-5 with two runs scored, two RBI, and three doubles.

After Wednesday's bout with Triton, the Vols will complete a long week of games when Kankakee visits Logan on Friday. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
