Vols Sweep Frontier; Sweep Series

Carterville, IL - The Logan Volunteers finished off a season series sweep of Frontier CC on Monday with a pair of "road" wins 14-3 and 8-2. The doubleheader was moved to Logan because of field conditions at Frontier. The two wins puts the Vols at 25-5 overall and 8-2 in Region XXIV play. Logan won't be able to rest on their victories long, as Kaskaskia travels to Carterville for a key GRAC doubleheader on Tuesday. First pitch scheduled at 1 p.m.

Game one saw a close battle until the 7th when the Vols would pull away. Luke Brown would set the table in the 1st, leading off the game with a single and scoring on a sac fly from Hunter Combs. Frontier would scartch back with a run of their own in the bottom half to tie the game at one. The Vols would take the lead for good in the 3rd when Cody Jansen would connect on a 2-run blast, his third of the year, to give the Vols a 3-1 lead. The Bobcats would get one back in the fifth, but Vols starter Austin Ruesch would wiggle out of the bases loaded jam to maintain the one run lead. After quiet 6th, the Vols would pull away in the 7th. After two runs would score earlier in the frame, Ashton Creal would put the game out of reach with a bases clearing, 2-out, 3-RBI double to put Logan up 8-2. Logan would add four more in the 8th on RBI singles from Hunter Combs, Sam Frontino, and Ashton Creal. Hunter Sullivan would finish the scoring in the 9th, with his sixth home run of the season, this time a 2-run shot putting the Vols up 14-3. Ashton Creal would lead the charge offensively, going 3-4 with four RBI for the game; while Luke Brown, Hunter Sullivan, Sam Frontino, and Cody Jansen would all have two hits apiece. Austin Ruesch (4-0) would pick up the win on the mound with another qaulity start, going seven innings, giving up two runs on five hits, while striking out five.

Game two followed the same script with a close game early and Logan pulling away late. The Vols would open the game scoring first when Hunter Combs would score Luke Brown on an RBI groundout in the 1st. Frontier would strike back in the 3rd capitalizing on two walks to take a 2-1 lead. That score would hold until the 6th, when the Vols bats would put Logan back out in front with a four spot. Cody Jansen would lead off the inning with a single followed by a double from Ashton Creal. Cooper Trinkle would get hit by the pitch setting up a bases loaded opportunity for Zach Parks, Parks would deliver with and 2-RBI single to right that would clear the bases after an error and allow Parks to get all the way over to third. Cameron Langston would follow with a sac fly pushing the lead to 5-2. The Vols would add two insurance runs in the 7th to finish off the sweep with a 8-2 victory. Zach Parks and Luke Brown led the charge at the plate with two hit games. Luke Seed (2-0) would work around a shaky 3rd to throw a complete game while picking up the victory. The freshman would give up two runs on two hits while striking out eight.
