Vols sweep Kaskaskia; Win Series

Carterville, IL - The Logan Volunteers got revenge on from a loss last Tuesday at Kaskaskia and swept the doubleheader on Tuesday, 7-5 and 7-1, to take the season series from the Blue Devils. The wins puts Logan at 27-5 on the year and 7-2 in GRAC play. The Vols will be back in action on Thursday when Lake Land comes to Carterville for a single game; first pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.

Three straight singles and a sacrifice fly saw the Vols open upa 2-0 lead in the 1st to start the day off on the right foot. The Blue Devils would come right back in the 2nd and scratch one across to cut the lead to 2-1, but Logan would answer back with capitalizing on a KCC error to get the run back and go up 3-1. Pitching would hold the score there until the 6th when KCC would hit a solo shot to draw within one and get the tying and go-ahead run on base, but Vols starter Brodie Lenon would induce a double play to end the threat. KCC would get get runners on again in the 7th to chase Lenon, but Andrew Zenner would come in and get a strike out to end the inning and leave the tying run on third. The Vols would use that momentum to score four times in the bottom half to push the lead to 7-2. KCC would get the tying run to the plate in the 9th but Zenner would close the door to finish off his fourth save of the year. Brodie Lenon (3-0) would get the win going 6.2 IP, scattering eight hits, allowing two runs and striking out four. Zenner pitched the final 2.1 to get the save. Offensively the heart of the lineup would come up big for the Vols with Hunter Sullivan, Hunter Combs, and Sam Frontino all collecting two hits each for the game.

Game two saw KCC get an early 1-0 lead in the 2nd, but the Vols would take over from there. In the bottom half of the 2nd back-to-back RBI singles from Zach Parks and Cooper Trinkle would give Logan the lead for good. The Vols would add two more in the 3rd and 5th; finishing off the scoring in the 6th with an RBI double from Ashton Creal. Logan starter Jeffrey Purnell (6-0) would throw a complete game giving up one run, while scattering four hits and striking out nine. Offensively Hunter Sullivan would add another two hit game, this time being joined by Ashton Creal and Zach Parks.
