Vols Finish 7-0 Week with Series Sweep of Lake Land

Charelston, IL - A three-game series sweep over Lake Land this weekend capped an impressive 7-0 week for the Logan Volunteers. The Vols would take game one on Friday 8-1 and finish the week with a 14-0 and 3-1 doubleheader sweep of the Lakers on Saturday. With the wins Logan improves to 30-5 on the year and 10-2 in GRAC play. The Vols will take a short break from conference play with Dyersburg State coming to Logan on Tuesday before getting back into GRAC play on Thursday with a series against Olney. First pitch for the Dyersburg State tilt is scheduled for 2 p.m. The Vols and Eagles faced off once early this year with Logan winning 3-2 back on February 15th. 

Game one on Friday saw the Vols would assert their will over Lake Land on their way to an easy 8-1 victory. Logan wouldn't take long to get going, with Luke Brown singling to open the 1st, steal second, and be driven in by a Hunter Sullivan single. Sullivan would score two batters later when Sam Frontino would double him home. The Vols would push the game out reach in the 4th and 5th, getting one run in the 4th and four in the 5th highlighted by RBI singles from Sam Frontino, Cody Jansen, and Cooper Trinkle. Offensively the Vols would collect 13 hits in the game, with Cody Jansen, Luke Brown, Ashton Creal, Sam Frontino, and Hunter Sullivan all collecting multiple hits. On the mound Justin Bauersachs (3-0) would get the win going five shutout innings giving up four hits and striking out five. Hunter Sullivan would collect his first save of the year, pitching four innings in relief surrendering one run on three hits while striking out two.

Game two of the series, and game one of the doubleheader on Saturday, saw the Vols dominate from start to finish. Behind an Austin Ruesch complete game shutout the Vols would short game the Lakers in 8. Austin Ruesch (5-0) would only allow two hits on the day while striking out eight en route to his complete game shutout. Offensively the Vols would use big innings to create the blowout, scoring four runs in the 2nd and 4th each and finish the game with a five run 8th. Eight Vols would collect RBI's with Luke Brown, Sam Frontino, Copper Trinkle, and Sam Zarling all collecting two RBI each. Zach Parks, Cooper Trinkle, and Cameron Langston would lead the bats with two hits apiece. 

The series finale saw timely hitting combined with a pitching gem from Luke Seed to give the Vols a 3-1 victory. Logan would break up the pitching duel with a 1-out rally in the 4th getting four of the five hits they would have for the game consecutively. The rally would start with back-to-back singles from Sam Frontino and Ashton Creal; followed by a RBI double from Trent Shelby and a 2-RBI double from Zach Parks to give the Vols a 3-0 lead. Luke Brown would single in the 7th for the other Vols hit. That would be all the offense Luke Seed and Andrew Zenner would need. Seed (3-0), a freshman from Paducah, KY, would allow only two hits over six shutout innings, while striking out 15 Lakers. Andrew Zenner would pick up his fifth save of the season pitching the 7th allowing one run on two hits while striking out two.
