Wild Game One Leads to Doubleheader Sweep Over SIC

Carterville, IL - A wet and windy Saturday afternoon helped turned game 1 of the doubleheader between the Logan Vols and Southeastern into a wild affair. Logan would come away with the 24-15 victory and cruise to a 11-3 win in game two to get the sweep of the day. With the wins the Vols are now 38-7 on the year and 18-2 in conference play. Logan and SIC will finish the series on Sunday, with a single game starting at 1 p.m.

Game one saw the Vols jump out to an early 5-0 lead after 1.5, but SIC would counter with 11 straight runs in the 3rd and 4th to take the lead. Logan would storm back in the 5th, putting up a five spot to cut the deficit to one. Once again the Falcons would answer collecting three more runs in the bottom half. The game would settle down in the middle innings with SIC adding one run in the 7th to take a 15-10 lead into the 8th.

Thats when the game would get blown open; with Logan collecting 12 runs on nine hits to take a 22-15 lead. With the game tied at 15 and 1-out Sam Zarling would deliver what turned out to be the dagger to the Falcons, taking an 0-2 pitch into the left-center gap for a 2-RBI double. Zach Parks would follow with a 2-RBI single to push the lead to 19-15. Hunter Sullivan would cap the long inning with a 2-out, 3-RBI triple.

The Vols would tally 27 hits for the game with Hunter Sullivan and Zach Parks leading the charge with five hits each. Luke Brown and Cameron Langston would add four hits each and Cooper Trinkle and Gabe Schimpf would follow with three hits each. Hunter Sullivan would finish the game hitting for a cycle; hitting a home run in the 2nd, single in the 4th, double in the 7th, and a double in the 8th.

Austin Ruesch would collect the win in relief for his 7th win of the year.

Game two saw the Vols jump out early, collect three runs in the 1st, giving start Luke Seed all the run support he would need to gain his fifth victory on the year. Offensively Logan wouldn't stop after the 1st, scoring three more in the 4th, one in the 5th, and four in the 7th. Hunter Sullivan and Zach Parks would again led the charge with three hits each, while Ashton Creal and Gabe Schimpf would collect two hits apiece.

Luke Seed (5-0) would go six strong innings, allowing one run on three hits while striking out 12 to earn the win.
