Offense and Bullpen Shine in 40th Win

Carterville, IL - In a road game moved to the home turf of Logan because of possible rain throughout the day, the Logan Volunteers would pull away from the Rend Lake Warriors, taking the game 14-5 and sweeping the season series. This win puts the Vols at 40-7 on the year and 20-2 in GRAC play. The nationally ranked #9 Volunteers will continue GRAC play this week, taking on #1 Wabash Valley starting on Thursday at Wabash; and then a doubleheader on Saturday at Logan. First pitch Thursday is scheduled for 3 p.m.

It was a back-and-forth contest early on, with Logan taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st thanks to an RBI groundout from Hunter Sullivan, but Rend Lake would come right back tying the ball game in the bottom half. The Vols would take the lead once again, putting together two runs in the 3rd. Rend Lake would take the lead in the 4th, scoring four times to take a 5-3 lead and threatening for more, but Hunter Ralls would come in from the bullpen and strand runners at 2nd and 3rd to end the threat. Logan would use that momentum to take the lead for good. The Vols would open the 5th with five straight hits, leading off with a double from Cody Jansen. In the frame Logan would tally five runs on six hits. From there the Vols would take over adding two in the 6th off a sacrifice fly from Zach Parks and 2-out RBI single from Ashton Creal. Logan would round out the scoring with four more runs in the 8th. Sam Frontino would lead the charge offensively, going 4-4 with three runs scored, two RBI, and a double. Luke Brown had a big day as well collecting four hits from the lead off spot, while Cooper Trinkle (3), Cody Jansen (2), Ashton Creal (2), and Gabe Schimpf (2) would all have multiple hit games.

Hunter Ralls (4-1) would pick up the win in relief, going 1.1 IP giving up one hit and striking out one. Joe Darlin would pitch two innings, striking out five, Hunter Sullivan would strike out the side in his inning of work, and Andrew Zenner would pitch a clean 9th to finish the ball game. Combined the Vols bullpen would pitch 5.1 innings, only allowing two hits and striking out 10.
