Volunteers Score Big Road Win at Three Rivers

POPLAR BLUFF, MO – The John A. Logan College Volunteers jumped on top early and never trailed on route to an 84-69 win Tuesday night at Three Rivers Community College in Poplar Bluff, Mo.

Leading 40-33 at the intermission, Logan was able to push its advantage to as much as 20 points in the second half. Ronnie Carson and David Sloan paced the Vols in scoring with 19 each. Derek Hawthorne chipped in 11 points for Logan while Vonnie Patterson and Damion Taylor both added 10. Three Rivers was led in scoring by Aiden Saunders with 23 points.

"Three Rivers is a good team and this was a great road win," said Logan coach Kyle Smithpeters. "I thought we showed improvement tonight, and I was pleased with how we played in a tough environment."

With the victory, Logan improves to 3-0 while Three Rivers drops to 1-2.

The Volunteers will travel to Vincennes University for a tournament this weekend. They will play Don Bosco Prep on Friday at 4 p.m. and then face Triton College on Saturday at 4 p.m.
