CARTERVILLE — The John A. Logan College Volunteers are lighting it up from all over the court. The team currently has six players with average points per game in double-figures.

The Vols — at a perfect 5-0 — are averaging 103 points per game as a team, while holding their opponents to an average of 71.4 points per game.

"We don't have a single threat," said Vols head coach Kyle Smithpeters. "Anyone is capable of lighting it up at any time."

Proof of that was this past weekend when the Vols faced nationally ranked Triton College. Out of nowhere, Jonah Jackson, a 6'4" freshmen, blew the game open by hitting four three-pointers in a row.

"Who's going to step up?" Smithpeters asked. "Anyone of them is capable. You just don't know. These guys can surprise you."

Ronnie Carson, a 6'1" sophomore, currently leads the team in scoring with 15.4 points per game. But, for the first four games, Jaiveon Eaves, a 6'3" sophomore, had been the team's scoring leader.

Eaves now averages 12.8 points per game, while David Sloan, a 6'0" freshman is averaging 14.6 points per game.

"What I love about this team is that it doesn't matter who's scoring, the other guys are happy for him and they are just playing to win," Smithpeters said. "That's something a coach loves."

Rounding out those averaging in double-figures are Derek Hawthorne, Jr., a 6'3" sophomore, Vonnie Patterson, a 6'5" freshman, and Melo Burrell, a 6'6" freshman who played last year for the famed Morgan Park High School in Chicago.

Jackson is averaging nine points per game.

The Vols and Lady Vols play Wednesday night at home in JALC's Donald L. Brewer Gymnasium.
