CARTERVILLE — David Sloan, freshman point guard at John A. Logan, is the national leader in assists with 9.3 per game. Sloan is a fan favorite because of drives and no-look passes.

Sloan averages 14.1 points and 4.7 rebounds for the Volunteers who are 10-1 and ranked 15th nationally. He shoots 56% from the field, 49% from three and 58% from the line. Despite being just the third leading scorer on the team, Sloan's play has been a big part of the Vols' lofty ranking.

"David is a very talented player who is still adjusting to the college game," said Kyle Smithpeters, Logan coach. "Sloan plays with a flair, but still keeps us under control. He makes us go."

Sloan had 7 assists in Tuesday night's big 95-81 win over Three Rivers College. He will lead the Vols into a Thursday, 6 p.m. game at West Kentucky Tech in Paducah. The Vols average 100 points per game while West Kentucky Tech averages 99.5 points per game.

The next home game will be on Monday night when Logan hosts unbeaten Vincennes, ranked second nationally. The women will play at 5 p.m. and men at 7 p.m.
