Logan Rallies Late to Defeat Southwestern Illinois 87-81

CARTERVILLE, IL — In the battle for first place in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference, John A. Logan came from 12 points down with 6-minutes remaining to beat Southwestern Illinois College 87-81. The win puts the Vols in first place in the league with a record of 13-3 and an overall record of 23-5.

Logan led for most of the first half but a late push by SWIC put them up 46-41 at the half. The Blue Storm continued to lead in the second half and led 79-67 with 6-minutes remaining when Logan went on a 20-2 run to gain the lead and the 87-81 victory. In the final Logan rally, both David Sloan and Derek Hawthorne Jr. hit big triples while Sloan also had two other baskets. Hawthorne was the Vols leading scorer with 22 points while Jaiveon Eaves had 16 and Sloan added 13.

SWIC is 22-6 and 12-4, was led by Javonte Perkins with 20 points while Branen Fitzjerrells had 18, Jasalam Hill and Kenny Roberson each had 13 and Destan Willliams had 10.
