Lady Vols End GRAC Series on a High Note

The Lady Vols ended the week of GRAC play on a high note.  Thursday March 22nd the Lady Vols played a tough double header against ranked Wabash Valley but did not end up on top.  Both teams came out swinging the bat hard from the first inning and the Vols took the lead going into the second inning 3-1.  Even though the Vols started out on a high note the game did not end in their favor losing 5-3. In the second game the Vols stayed with Wabash Valley but ended up losing 3-2.  Lynnsay Wilson and Taylor Rogers kept the Lady Vols in the game both having solo homeruns. Coach Taylor Orsburn Siefert stated, "I am very pleased with how our team battled today.  We competed against the top pitcher in our conference, Jade Montgomery, which is a huge statement for our hitting staff. Overall our team played great defensively, pitchers pitched with a lot of confidence but at the end of the day the outcome did not fall our way."

After a tough day at the yard yesterday, today was a different story for the Lady Vols.  The Vols ended up sweeping Kaskaskia College at home today. The first game the Vols were trailing after the first inning 3-0 but that did not stop them from being aggressive at the plate and on the bases.  The Lady Vols took the win 6-5 with the help of  sophomore Taylor Rogers who went 3-3 with 1 double and 1 RBI. Freshman Rebecca Moffett, Mikayla Chamness, and sophomore Taja Dedecker were all 2-3 in game one.  Freshman pitcher Bailey Anderson got the save and kept the Vols in the game to take the win.  The second game freshman pitcher Sydney Levan pitched 5 innings with 6 hits to take the win.  The Lady Vols were on a mission the second game to put some runs on the scoreboard taking the win 11-3.  Freshman Rebecca Moffett stayed hot going 2-4 and Taylor Rogers, Lynnsay Wilson and Mikayla Chamness all going 2-3.  Madison Ruppel, Sarah Aldridge and Sydney Levan went 1-3. Taja Dedecker hit a walk off double allowing the Vols to walk off with a win in 5 innings. Coach Taylor Orsburn-Siefert said, "I am very pleased with how we preformed on all sides of the game today.  We have some more work to do next week in practice but all I can ask from my athletes is to keep improving everyday."
