Lady Vols Finish Strong

The Lady Vols opened their season this past weekend at the Sun Chief Classic in Gulf Shores, Alabama.  The Vols went 1-4 against some nationally ranked junior college teams.  Game one had the Vols facing Wallace State-Hanceville who were ranked 13th in the nation.  The Vols had several opportunities but came up short falling 4-3.  Game two had the Vols facing 15th ranked Wallace State-Dothan who went 54-5 during last year's season. Game 3 was a tough loss for the Lady Vols dropping another game against Snead State and ending the day 0-3.

Saturday's first game against Southern Union State unfortunately started off the way they had finished the day prior dropping another game. The Vols finally rebounded back against Coastal Alabama-East winning 5-1 and picking their first win of the season.  Coach Orsburn-Siefert stated, "We saw a lot of good and bad over the weekend.  Although 1-4 doesn't look great in the books, I feel as if we challenged ourselves playing against nationally ranked competition and were able to see where we stand overall as a team.  We definitely had opportunities in the game but fell short of executing what we needed such as leaving too many baserunners on base and several base running miscues.  We know what we need to focus on this week in practice to "clean up" offensively and defensively to help prepare us for this coming weekend."

The Lady Vols will return back to action next Friday for a 5 game stint in Meridian, Mississippi.

Go Vols!
