Logan Women Win Battle for First Place

CARTERVILLE — In a battle for first place in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference, the John A. Logan Lady Vols whipped Southeastern College 91-61 on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Vols are now 6-2 overall and 4-0 and in at least a tie for first place in the GRAC while Southeastern falls to 5-6 and 3-1 in the conference.

Logan jumped to an early 13-2 lead and led by 31-11 after one quarter and 56-22 at the half. The Lady Vols out rebounded the Falcons 44-22 and shot 79% from the free throw line. Destiny Cozart led Logan scorers with 20 points while Farasia Hodge added 16 and Shanaya Whitsell had 11.

Demetria Heard and Lewerencia Simon each had 11 for the Falcons while Jada Harrell had 10.

Logan will host Three Rivers on Tuesday at 5 p.m. Three Rivers edged Logan 73-72 last Tuesday at Poplar Bluff.
