Lady Vols Beat Mineral Area 81-79

CARTERVILLE — Three pointers and free throws paved the way for a tight 81-79 win for the John A. Logan Lady Vols over Mineral Area College on Saturday. The Lady Vols made 6-13 from three in the second half and 8-21 for the game. From the line, Logan was 13-14 for 93%.

The game was tied 38-38 at the half and went into the final quarter tied 63-63. The visiting Cardinals jumped out to a 6-point lead in the final stanza but behind the 3-point shooting of Miriah Donelson and Alicia Hornbuckle the Vols regained the lead and held on for the victory.

Donelson led Logan with 18 points while Hornbuckle had 16 and Farasia Hodge had 14. Hodge was he leading rebounder with 6 as the Vols outrebounded the Cardinals 34-33.

Mineral Area, 8-3, was led by Holly Forbes with 25 points. Logan, 9-2, will host nationally ranked Vincennes on Monday in a 5 p.m. game. The men's game gets started 7 p.m. and features the unbeaten Vincennes team, ranked second in the naation aganist Logan, 12-1 and ranked 15th in the nation.
