Logan's Shaniya Whitsell Signs with Quincy

Shaniya Whitsell

Carterville--Logan guard Shaniya Whitsell has signed a national letter of intent to continue

her basketball career at Quincy University, an NCAA Division II school.

Whitsell averaged 11.4 points and 4.4 rebounds per game this past season and also

pulled down 4.4 rebounds despite being only 5'5.

"Shaniya was our glue," said Logan coach Amanda Shelby.  "In her two years at Logan she

was always a constant.  She really worked on her game over the summer and that hard

work paid off for her.  She's going to make a big impact on Quincy."

Whitsell said she was impressed with the academics at Quincy and she liked the small

school size.  "I will be able to major in early childhood development and play basketball.  I

can't wait to get started."

"Logan has prepared me well for the move to an NCAA II school," Whitsell said.  "It is great

to get a scholarship that allows me to advance academically and to play basketball."

Whitsell said developing her 3-point shooting is her highligh at Logan.  "Our radio guy

(Mike Murphy) told me I needed to shoot more threes and gain confidence in my shooting.

I followed his advice and ended the season as our best shooter from distance, shooting 38%

from three."
