Official Practice Begins

Optimism and injuries greeted the John A. Logan women's basketball team when practice opened on Monday (Oct. 1).

Amanda Shelby is beginning her fourth year as coach of the Lady Vols with an overall record of 62-28. Last season the Lady Vols were 22-9. "I'm just hoping to get everybody healthy as soon as possible," Shelby said. "We have the components of having a good team, but we need everyone healthy. Our first practice we were short three players who are out with an assortment of minor injuries."

The Lady Vols will play in two jamborees in preparation for the upcoming season. They will participate in the Mineral Area preseason scrimmage and jamboree on Oct. 13 and will participate in the 13-team Southwestern Illinois jamboree on Oct. 20-21.

"We have a lot of ground to cover, but the players are excited," Shelby said. "Hopefully we can avoid more injuries and get the three on the sideline back within three weeks."

Logan will begin the regular season with a home game against the Lindenwood-Belleville JV squad on Saturday, Nov. 3, 1 p.m
