Volleyball Team takes 3 straight from Lincoln Trail

In an unusual Labor Day match, the Vols hosted Lincoln Trail College in a GRAC conference matchup. Although the visiting Statesmen looked to have the most athletic team since they restarted their volleyball program 3 seasons ago, John A Logan was able to come away with a 25-13, 25-23, 25-9 victory.

As has been a constant theme with this team, several players made contributions. Kameryn Sillmon, freshman middle hitter from Belleville, had probably her most impressive match of the season. She led the team with 4 blocks on the night and finished second with 8 kills and no errors. Her hitting percentage was an amazing .727 for the night.

Other contributions came from Bryleigh Buchanan, freshman rightside hitter from Harrisburg, who led the team with 9 kills. Olivia Hallet, freshman outside hitter from Jackson, led the team in service points, aces, and added 10 digs as well. Sophomore Shelbey Saye from Edwardsville led the team with 22 assists.

"It was definitely an odd match. We started the night by giving Lincoln Trail a 5-0 lead in game one on multiple errors, then outscored them 25-8 to finish game one at 25-13. Then, we completely lost our aggressiveness and narrowly escaped in a 25-23 nail-biter in game two. In the third game, we showed up to play again and ran away with it. It was definitely a rollercoaster ride, but the end result was a solid conference win," said Coach Burnside.
