Volleyball Drops Close Match at Mineral Area College

In a back and forth match at Mineral Area this past Friday, John A Logan Volleyball came up just a little short. In 5 difficult sets, the Vols ended the night with a 16-25, 25-21, 17-25, 25-22, 9-15 loss. Still Coach Burnside feels like the team is making progress towards competing consistently with NJCAA ranked opponents. Mineral Area finished last season 5th in the Nation and are currently ranked #18 by the NJCAA.

"I told our girls before the match that MAC has always been a strong team. We have been competitive with them before on our court, but we have never gone to their place and played well. This was an opportunity for our young team to do something which we had not been able to do the last couple years. Although we stumbled a bit in game 5 and were unable to finish the potential upset, I am still very proud of the way our team competed there," said Coach.

Metro East natives Kim Hall and Kameryn Sillmon led the Vols with 19 combined kills. Kameryn also led the team defensively at the net with 8 blocks. Sophomore Setters Taytum Murdock and Shelbey Saye finished with 24 assists and 10 digs each. Freshman Rightside Krista Rhodes from Marble Hill, Mo also had a standout night with 8 kills. Freshman Libero Alanis Below led the team with 11 digs.
