This past weekend John A Logan Volleyball hosted it's first regular-season collegiate tournament in 12 years. After the Lady Vols posted a perfect 4-0 record, Coach Burnside will probably be looking to host a similar tournament every year.

Three of the four matches were 3 game sweeps for the vols, and included wins over Frontier CC, East Central College, and Lewis & Clark. Although the Vols made things interesting at times against Frontier and Lewis & Clark, the matches ended up being fairly lopsided wins for the vols.

The East Central match was also a 3 game win, and it turned out to be a very satisfying victory for the Lady Vols. In an opening weekend tournament at ECC, the Falcons had defeated Logan 3-2 in a very contentious, emotional match.  This was a defeat that the Lady Vols seemed anxious to avenge. "Our players were very excited to get another chance to play East Central. I think they felt like they did not play their best against ECC the first time and they wanted a chance at redemption. To beat them in 3 straight was exciting and I think it shows our players how far we have come over the last month," said Coach.

The tournaments most competitive match by far came against St Loius CC-Meramec. The Archers came into the match with a 9-4 overall record and quite a bit of confidence. It took the Lady Vols 5 long sets to finally walk away with a victory. "Meramec served very aggressively in that match, and it kept our offense off balance the majority of the time. It's really a learning experience for our players to see the value of aggressive serving. It's a skill that we sometimes take for granted, but it can be a very effective equalizer. If we could have been in system more often offensively, I believe we could have imposed our will in the match much sooner. Their service pressure prevented us from doing that," said Coach Burnside.

All things considered, the tournament went very smoothly. All the teams that participated are interested in coming back next season, and the Lady Vols are looking to make this a yearly event. "I would also like to thank all the workers that help us put on a quality tornament. There were a bunch Logan Athletes from other sports that helped out, and we could not have done it without them. It nice to have the support of the athletic department and the other athletes," said Coach.
