Last night at Brewer Gymnasium the Lady Vols took another big step towards a conference championship with a 25-17, 25-20, 25-17 win over Kaskaskia College.
As is usual with this sophomore-led team there were several players that made significant contributions. Kameryn Sillmon led the team with an impressive offensive performance. She had 10 kills on only 14 attempts and hit an amazing .571 for the night. Kameryn is currently ranked 3rd nationally by the NJCAA in hitting percentage at .487.
"Kameryn's offense has been absolutely ridiculous this year. She has learned to hit a couple different sets effectively and is able to move the defense around more this season. The result has been a very high hitting and kill percentage. She should have a great chance to be the conference Player of the Year this season," said Coach Burnside.
Olivia Hallet had a break out offensive performance as well with 8 kills on the night. Lexie Barnes led the team with 18 assists just beating out freshman Bailey Below who had 16.
Kim Hall had a very solid all-around performance with 8 kills, 4 Aces, and 18 Digs. This is the kind of performance that made Kim the Conference Player of the Year last season. Kim's ace total has extremely impressive this season. In fact, she is ranked #1 in the nation by the NJCAA in Aces per game.
"It's pretty amazing what Kim is doing from the service line this year. We encouraged her to break out her jump serve this season (she didn't use it last year for some reason), having no idea how productive it would be. It has been stunning what she has done from the service line this year," said Coach.
With the victory over Kaskaskia, the Vols are 23-6 overall and 11-0 in the GRAC.
