Vols Push Past Southern Union

Wadley, AL - Logan Baseball opens the Southern Union Invitational in style with 5-3 win over the host-team Southern Union State Community College.  The win puts the Vols at 3-0 on the young season and will be back in action tomorrow against Spartanburg Methodist College at 3 p.m.

Southern Union would open the scoring in the bottom of the first capitalizing on an error. SUSCC would add one more in the fifth, pushing the score to 2-0. Logan would start the comeback in the 6th when Collin Clayton would single in Jack Wilson to cut the deficit in half. The Vols would take the lead for the first time in the 8th with a 1-out 2-RBI single from Sam Frontino and two more insurance runs in the 9th with a 2-out 2-RBI double from Collin Clayton

Andrew Zenner (1-0) would pick up his first collegiate win, going 3.2 IP in relief, giving up one run on three hits, walking one,  and striking out two. Adison Wildharber would pick up the last out of the game and his first save of the year. Trey Riley would get the start for Logan, going 5 innings giving up two runs, both unearned, two hits, three walks, while striking out eight, and picking the no decison. The Vols offense was led by lead-off hitter Ashton Creal going 3-4 with a run scored and a stolen base. Clayton would end the day with 3 RBI.

"Our pitching set the tone for us this weekend." Coach Kyle Surprenant said after the win. "Riley pitched well enough to win, but was matched up against another great arm which held our offense down in the early going. Zenner was huge for us today keeping the game at 2-0 and allowing our offense a chance to get us back in the game." Coach Surprenant was also pleased with what the offense did today. "I was very happy with our offense and they way they put quality at-bats together against some good arms and I was glad to see guys step up and come through for us late in the game."
