Bats Silent as Vols lose to Parkland

Carbondale, IL – The Logan Vols baseball team dropped their second straight contest on Thursday to Parkland 3-0. The loss drops the Volunteers to 4-2 on the season. JALC will look to rebound on Sunday and Monday against South Suburban. Sunday's contest is a double header starting at 5 p.m. at SIU and Monday will be a single game at Logan, with first pitch at 1:30.

Logan would be held scoreless for the first time this season, only recording three hits and working three walks on the day, to go along with 13 strikeouts. The Vols looked in position to push a couple runs across the plate in the eighth, with back-to-back 1-out singles from Shane Peisker and Sam Frontino, but Parkland would wiggle out of the jam, forcing a strikeout and a ground out to end the threat. Collin Clayton would pick up the other hit for JALC. Parkland would scratch across single runs in the first, sixth, and seventh. Trey Riley (0-1) would pick up the loss, going six innings, giving up two runs (one earned), while scattering seven hits, and striking out six. Out of the bullpen, Andrew Zenner would work three innings, giving up one run, on one hit, while also striking out six.

"Our pitching led the way for us again, Trey and Zenner pitched well enough for us to win today but we just didn't get it done offensively." Head Coach Kyle Surprenant said. "We saw three very good arms (from Prakland), but did not make adjustments in the box and that led to striking out too many times to be successful.  Hopefully we learn from it and get ready for Sunday because we are going to see more quality arms this weekend."
