Fairfield, IL - Hots bats and quality pitching was the formula for success for the Vols against Frontier Community College on Tuesday. The 14-4 (8 innings) and 14-0 (5 innings) short-game victories, puts Logan at 19-12 on the year and 9-3 in Region 24 play. The Vols will be back in action on Thursday when they travel to Lake Land College. Logan will be back at home again on Saturday; hosting a doubleheader against Lake Land to finish the season series.

In game one, Blake Johnson was clutch at the plate with runners on base, driving in four on two hits to lead the Vols past Frontier 14-4. Johnson drove in runs on a home run in the third and a double in the fourth. Frontier got on the board in the first inning, but Logan would answer right back with a Jack Wilson sac fly to tie the game in the top of the second. From there on, it was all Logan. The Vols pulled away for good with seven runs in the third inning. In the third Johnson homered to left, scoring three runs, two batters later Wilson followed with a two-run shot himself, Hunter Combs had an RBI single, and Hunter Sullivan's RBI triple capped off the big inning. Justin Bauersachs was the winning pitcher for the Vols. He lasted four innings, allowing one hit and one run while striking out three. Joe Darlin threw four innings in relief out of the bullpen. Offensively, the Vols tallied 11 hits. Wilson, Sullivan, Johnson, and Ashton Creal all had multiple hit performances.

In game two, Adison Wildharber shut down Frontier, throwing a complete game shutout and leading Logan to the 14-0 victory. Blake Johnson once again led the offense by driving in four runs. He went 3-for-4 at the plate. The Vols would get things going right away scoring three in the first, followed by, three in the third and fourth and would finsih the game off with a five-run fifth. In that fifth, the Vols put the pressure on, lead by doubles by AJ Lewis and Johnson and a single by MacKenzie Worth. Wildharber would pick up the win for the Vols. He lasted five innings, allowing two hits and zero runs while striking out five and walking one. At the plate the Vols collected 13 hits on the day; Johnson led the way with a 3-for-4 performance, while Collin Clayton and Cameron Touchette would have two hits each. Clayton would connect on his first homerun of the season with a two-run blast in the third.

"I was very happy with our approach offensively today." Head Coach Kyle Surprenant said. "Our guys went up with a plan and used the big part of the field. We got good swings on pitches up in the zone and used it to come up with several extra base hits. That's got to be our game, driving balls in the gaps and using our speed to run for days. On the other side of the ball I thought our pitchers did a great job. For the most part we limited free bases and that led us being very efficient wirh our pitch counts. We now have to look ahead to a big series this week with a tough Lake Land team."
