Vols Cruise Past Lake Land 13-1

Mattoon, IL - The Logan Vols baseball team rode a hot lineup and the right arm of Trey Riley to cruise past Lake Land College 13-1 on Thursday. The win puts the Vols at 20-12 on the year and 7-3 in GRAC play. JALC will look to continue their hot ways on Friday, when Lake Land travels to Carterville for a doubleheader to finish the season series; with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.

The Vols would tally 20 hits on the day including four home runs en route to the short game victory. Jeremy Gaines and Collin Clayton would led the charge, collecting four hits and three runs each. Jack Wilson, Hunter Sullivan, and AJ Lewis would each contribute two hits and three RBI for the day. Jack Wilson's two-run shot would get the Vols going in the third. Logan would start to pull away in the fourth, when Jeremy Gaines, Hunter Sullivan, and AJ Lewis would connect for back-to-back-to-back homeruns. Logan would add four runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings to finish off the scoring.

On the mound Trey Riley would hold the Lakers in check all game. Riley (5-1) would throw a complete game, allowing one run on two hits, while striking out 15. The sophomore right-hander is currently 12th in the nation in strikeouts with 76 and 5th in the nation in Earned Run Average, posting a 1.08 ERA.
