Vols Finish Off Series Sweep of Lake Land

Carterville, IL - The Vols would only trail for one inning in doubleheader sweep over Lake Land on Friday. JALC would take game one, 8-2 and short game the finale 11-1. The wins put Logan at 22-12 overall and 9-3 in GRAC play. The Vols will look to stay hot with five games next week, starting with hosting Southwestern Illinois on Monday, with first pitch at 3 p.m. The rest of the week schedule will be: home against Shawnee on Tuesday, travel to Onley CC on Thursday, and hosting a doubleheader against Onley on Saturday.

In game one, the Vols would follow the lead of the right-hander Tanner Gordon. Gordon, the Indiana signee, would pick up his fifth win of the year on the mound, going seven innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on two hits while striking out 11. The offensive would open the scoring in the first on a RBI single from Jack Wilson. After a single run in the third, the Vols would take the lead for good in the fourth, picking up two runs, highlighted by a sac fly from Blake Johnson. Logan would add two in the fifth and two six to cap the scoring. In that sixth inning, the Vols would connect with the long ball twice, getting solo shots from Cameron Touchette and Jack Wilson. Wilson would led the way with 3 RBI to go along with a 3-5 day. Touchette, AJ Lewis, and Sam Frontino would all collect two hits apiece.

Game two, saw the Lakers pick up their only lead of the series in the first, tallying their only run of the game. After the first, starter Brenden Heiss would only allow one Lake Land base-runner to reach second base the rest of the game. Heiss (4-1) would pick up the complete game victory, giving up one run on one hit, while striking out four. The offense would start the onslaught in the second, when AJ Lewis would single to score Jack Wilson and Hunter Sullivan to give the Vols a 2-1 lead. After back-to-back doubles in the from Collin Clayton and Jack Wilson in the third; Logan would finish the night tallying four runs in each of the fourth and fifth to force the short game victory. Collin Clayton would collect two doubles on his way to a 3-4 day. Clayton, Jeremy Gaines, Blake Johnson, and AJ Lewis would each drive in two runs; while Johnson and Sam Frontino would have a multi hit game.
