Vols Survive Shawnee

CARTERVILLE - The Logan baseball team survives a test from Shawnee Community College on Tuesday, hanging on to win 3-2. The win puts the Vols at 23-12 on the year and 10-3 in GRAC play. JALC will look to continue their hot ways on Wednesday when Southwestern Illinois College comes to Logan; first pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. Fans can following the game action via live gamecast on GameChanger.

The Vols got things going early on, opening the scoring, when Jeremy Gaines would score on a Blake Johnson double in the first and a Cameron Touchette two-out RBI single scoring Gaines again. The Saints would rally back by capitalizing on Logan errors, scoring a single run in the fourth and fifth, to tie the game at two. In the bottom half Logan would retak the lead with some great base running from Collin Clayton. Clayton would led off the inning with a single, tag up and advance to second on a deep fly ball to center from Jack Wilson, advance to third on a wild pitch, and score with 2-outs on a well excuted double steal. Logan's bullpen would hold the Saints down from there.

Justin Bauersachs would get the start for the Vols. The Freshman would go five innings, giving up two unearned runs on four hits, while striking out three, and picking up his second win of the season. Joe Darlin would replace Bauersachs and throw two innings of scoreless relief, only allowing one walk. Andrew Zenner would finish the Saints, picking up his second save of the year; going two innings, giving up two hits, while striking out two.

The Vols offense would walk nine times, in addition to their four hits producing just enough offense to get the victory. Jeremy Gaines, Cameron Touchette, Blake Johnson, and Collin Clayton, would all collect a hit in the game.
