Vols Sweep Doubleheader and Series from Rend Lake

Ina, IL - The Logan Vols baseball team would finish off the Rend Lake Warriors on Saturday with a pair of victories, 8-3, 7-6. The doubleheader sweep of RLC gave Logan the season sweep of the Warriors and improves their overall record to 31-13 overall and 18-4 in GRAC play. JALC will finish up the last week of the regular season, starting on Monday when Mineral Area College will come to Carterville, with first pitch at 3 p.m. The Vols will round out the GRAC schedule with a doubleheader at SWIC on Tuesday, at SIC on Thursday, before finish the regular season with a doubleheader against SIC at home on Saturday. Game one saw Logan hit the ball all over the yard, collecting 12 hits, all singles en route to the 8-3 victory. The Vols would get things going early putting up three in the 1st, two in the 3rd. After a shaky first Tanner Gordon would hold down the Warriors; going five innings, giving up two runs on two hits and striking out 9; while picking up his seventh win of the season. Joe Darlin would go four innings giving up one run on three hits, while striking out three and picking up his second save of the season. AJ Lewis and Cameron Touchette paced the offense with 3-4 days.

Game two saw a steady offense attack, scoring in six of the seven innings, be good enough to hold off a late push by RLC, taking the game 7-6. Logan would get things going early with a 1-out triple from Blake Johnson, who would later score on a wild pitch. Hunter Combs would lead off the 2nd with another triple and later score on a Jeremy Gaines sacrifice fly, giving the Vols the lead back at 2-1. JALC would push the lead to 6-1 before Rend Lake would battle to put up a four spot to cut the Vols lead to 6-5. An Ashton Creal RBI single in the 7th would end up being a huge insurance run, pushing the lead to 7-5. RLC would get one back in the bottom half, but Andrew Zenner would close the door, picking up the final two outs while stranding the tying and winning run on 2nd and 3rd. Zenner would collect his third save of the year. Brenden Heiss (6-1) would pick up the win, going six innings, giving up five runs (four earned) on seven hits while striking out nine. Jeremy Gaines led the offense going 2-2 with an RBI and a run scored.
