Pair of Former Vols Face Off In Minor League All-Star Game

Former Logan baseball teammates Joey Marciano ('14-'15) and Matthias Dietz ('15-'16) found themselves competing against each other in the South Atlantic League All-Star game on Tuesday, June 19th.  Marciano pitches in the San Francisco Giants organization for the Augusta GreenJackets while Dietz pitches for the Delmarva Shorebirds of the Baltimore Orioles organization.  In a game that featured a heavy dose of offensive firepower the former Volunteers showed well for their respective teams as both of them threw a scoreless frame in the contest.  After a successful career at Logan, Marciano continued his career at Southern Illinois University for the Salukis before being drafted in the 36th round of the 2017 draft following his senior year.  Dietz was selected in the 29th round of the 2015 draft but elected to return to Logan for his sophomore campaign.  Following an impressive sophomore year he was selected in the 2nd round of the 2016 MLB draft.  Both Marciano and Dietz had an excpetional first half of the season.  Marciano is currently 4-2 with a 2.33 ERA in 11 starts.  IN 65.2 innings pitched he has struck out 59.  Dietz boasts very similar numbers as he is currently sitting at 6-1 in 11 starts and has struck out 59 in 55.2 innings pitched.  "I am extremely excited for these two guys.  They both are very deserving of the success they are having" said Logan's head baseball coach, Kyle Surprenant.  "Both of these guys had great careers and have the make up to be very successful at the professional level. I am looking forward to watching their progress with the hopes both will be getting a promotion soon!"
