Vols Claim 4th Straight Conference Title

Carterville – The John A. Logan baseball team secured at least a share of the Great Rivers Athletic Conference for the fourth consecutive year. The Vols finished the year 36-14 overall and 22-5 in GRAC play. Logan will enter the post season as the host for the Region XXIV tournament which will start on Friday, May 11, against Rend Lake College at noon.

The Vols used a balanced attack offensively and a deep pitching staff en route to the 4-peat. At the plate Logan had six players finish the year hitting over .300 and had seven players with double digit extra base hits. On the mound, the Vols produce a staff that ended the year with a 2.75 conference ERA and struck out 271 batters in 212.2 GRAC innings.

“One of our first team goals for every year is to win a regular season conference championship.” Said Head Coach Kyle Surprenant. “I am excited for our guys, they have put in a lot of hard work and dedicated themselves to this team and it is nice to see that pay off. Winning a regular season conference championship shows a lot about your team, not just in terms of talent, but when you play 27 conference games in a season you are going to have to overcome some things, you have to be mentally tough enough to ride out the highs and lows and that speaks volumes for our guys.  The fact that we have now won 4 straight conference championships is a testament to the type of players and people that we are bringing into our program, the leadership that comes from our sophomores and the support we receive from the faculty, staff, administration and board of trustees here at John A. Logan College.”
