Belleville, IL - The Logan Volunteers Baseball team would roll right past Southwestern Illinois 20-6 on Thursday. The Vols would connect on five home runs en route to their 20 victory of the season. Logan now sits at 3-1 in GRAC play and 20-4 overall. These two teams will meet again on Saturday to finish the season series with a doubleheader starting at noon.

Logan would not mess around early on, jumping out to a 3-0 lead before recording out after back-to-back singles to open the game, followed by a 3-run blast from Hunter Combs. The Vols wouldn't be done in the 1st picking up their fourth run of the frame when Sam Zarling would connect on a 2-out RBI double. In the 2nd Logan would pick up three more thanks to an RBI double from Hunter Combs and an RBI single from Sam Frontino. The Vols would push the game out of reach in the 3rd with a six-run inning. Hunter Sullivan would connect on his first home run of the day with a two-run blast in the frame. Sullivan would follow up in the 4th with a solo shot to put Logan up 14-0. Trent Shelby would join the home run parade in the 5th with his second of the year. SWIC would get their runs in the 5th and 6th innings. Hunter Combs would cap the scoring in the 7th with his second home run of the day. Each of the eight Vols that collected a hit would have at least two on the day with Hunter Combs leading the way with a 4-4, with four runs scored, a double, two home runs, and six RBI day. On the mound Jeffrey Purnell (4-0) would pick up his fourth win of the year going five innings, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out nine.
