Centralia, IL - The Logan Volunteers put themselves in a hole and couldn't make it all the way back in their 4-1 loss to Kaskaskia on Tuesday. The loss drops the Vols to 22-5 on the year and 5-2 in GRAC play. Logan will look to rebound on Thursday when they host Frontier to open the Region XXIV series with the Bobcats. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
Logan would have an opportunity right away to get on the board in the first with runners on 2nd and 3rd with only one out, but Kaskaskia starter Jordan Bloemer would strand the runners. The Blue Devils would use that momentum to capitalize on two first inning walks to take a 3-0 lead. The Vols would get the first two guys on in the second but a double play and a groundout would end the inning without any damage. Kaskaskia would once again take advantage of miscues from the Vols adding another run pushing their lead to 4-0. Pitching would dominate from their with either side not allowing a base runner past second base until the 9th. The Vols would make a push for a comeback in the 9th, Hunter Combs would get things started with a 1-out single followed by back-to-back hit-by-pitches to Sam Frontino and Ashton Creal gave Logan the tying run at the plate. Combs would score on a wild pitch to cut the deficit to 4-1, but that would be all the Vols could get, dropping the contest 4-1. Hunter Combs would collect two of the five hits for the Logan offense. Hunter Sullivan (1-2) would take the loss on the mound going 3.2 giving up four runs (three earned) on three hits while striking out seven and walking two. Luke Seed would pitch well in relief going 4.1 innings giving up only one hit while striking out nine.
