Vols Cruise Past Shawnee 13-2

Ullin, IL - The Logan Volunteers got off to a quick start and wouldn't let off the gas; cruising by Shawnee CC 13-2 in seven innings on Tuesday. The win puts the Vols at 32-7 on the year and 12-2 in GRAC play. Logan will not get to rest on the victory for long, as Rend Lake will travel to Carterville for a doubleheader on Wednesday. The double dip was originally scheduled for Friday, but with the possible weather later in the week the two teams have moved up the contest. First pitch is scheduled for 1 pm.

The Vols would get off to a hot start with a 2-RBI single from Sam Frontino and an RBI groundout from Zach Parks would give Logan a 3-0 lead before the Saints had a chance to bat. SCC would scratch an unearned run back in the bottom half, but the Vols would keep the pressure on scoring in each of the first four innings. After failing to score in the 5th, Logan would put the game out of reach with a four run 6th and capping the scoring with two in the 7th to short game Shawnee. Cody Jansen and Hunter Sullivan would lead the offense with three hits and three runs scored each. Cody Jansen and Sam Frontino would both hit home runs for the Vols, while Zach Parks would finish the day with two RBI.

On the mound Austin Ruesch (6-0) would pick up the victory, going six innings, allowing two runs on ten hits, while striking out five. Gabe Schimpf would throw a perfect 7th inning out of the pen to finish the game.
