Vols Blank SWIC to Open Region XXIV Tournament

Carterville, IL - The Logan Volunteers jumped out early and never looked back in the Region XXIV tournament opener on Friday. Logan blanked Southwestern Illinois 10-0 in six innings. With the win the Vols improve to 42-11 and will play the winner of Rend Lake and Lincoln Trail match-up at 12:30 on Saturday. 

The Vols would get things going in the 1st when Luke Brown, who singled to lead off the inning, would come around to score on a wild pitch. Logan would start to stretch the lead in the 3rd when Cameron Langston would score on a wild pitch and Hunter Sullivan would drive in one more with a sacrifice fly making the Vols lead 3-0. Cody Jansen would keep things going in the 4th doubling home Ashton Creal and then would score on a 2-out single from Cameron Langston making the score 5-0. The Vols would finish off the Blue Storm in the 6th, getting the first five hitters on base. Hunter Sullivan would put the game at the brink with a 2-RBI double making the game 9-0 with runners at 2nd and 3rd. Hunter Combs would finish off the run-rule with an RBI fielders choice. Offensively the Vols would knock out eight hits, led by Cody Jansen's 3-3 three RBI day with a double and two run scored. Hunter Sullivan would also finish with three RBI.

Jeffrey Purnell (8-0) would toss a complete game shutout on the hill for Logan. The sophomore, Marshall University commit, would scatter three hits while striking out seven.
