Logan Women Down Jefferson College 80-59

JOHN A LOGAN WOMEN'S BASKETBALL DEFEAT JEFFERSON COLLEGE FOR THE SECOND TIME THIS SEASON WITH AN OVERALL SCORE OF 80-59.

The Lady Vols pick up a much-needed win this evening over Jefferson College Lady Vikings. The Lady Vols began the game with great hustle and effort on both ends of the court. The Lady Vols got off to a hot start in the first quarter scoring 25 points to the Lady Vikings 7 points. The second quarter was much like the first where the Vols just continued to build on their lead and they ended the first half leading Jefferson 49-24.

The Lady Vols had a rough third quarter start where they went on a scoring drought and only scored 4 points in the first 4 minutes of the quarter. With a timeout called by Coach Shelby, the Lady Vols reacted in a positive manner and finished the 3rd quarter with 13 points extending the lead to 62-41.

In the fourth quarter, the Lady Vikings showed signs of life and tried to make a couple of runs at the Lady Vols but couldn't cut the lead to single digits. The Lady Vols ended the fourth quarter with 18 points that gave them an overall score of 80-59 to clinch another win over Jefferson College.

Freshman Emily Holmes was the lead scorer tonight with 14 points (4-9 from the 3 point line), she also pulled down 5 rebounds, and grabbed 2 steals. Freshman ZaKyra Stallworth chipped in 13 points, pulled down 14 rebounds, and blocked 5 shots. Sophomore Johnecia Kyles also pitched in 13 points and tallied in 6 rebounds.

The Lady Vols move on to a record of 6-6 and will be playing one more home game before their Christmas break on Saturday, December, 15 against Mineral Area College @1 pm.
