This fall marks Bill Burnside’s ninth season as head volleyball coach at John A. Logan College. Over the previous eight years, the Vols have put together a 169-98 record, including a 20-10 mark this past year. The Vols also have three Great Rivers Athletic Conference championships and four Region 24 championships in the Burnside Era, including the 2016 Region championship last season.

Burnside spent seven seasons as assistant volleyball coach for the Lady Vols before taking over the reins from Fae Ragan who resigned the head coach position after 22 years.

In addition to his coaching experience at Logan, Burnside served as head volleyball coach at Lambuth University in Jackson, Tennessee for four years. He has also coached men’s club teams, worked at collegiate volleyball camps, and earned a USA Volleyball CAP Level II Coaching Certification.

A native of Lewes, Delaware, he played club volleyball at the University of Delaware for three years. He has a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Delaware and a master’s degree in physical education from Southern Illinois University. Along with his coaching responsibilities, Burnside works as an academic advisor at the College. Bill and his wife, Penny, have one daughter, Kara.
